Do conservatives opposed to cap-and-trade realize they’re supporting Chavez, Putin, and the Saudis?

It’s a matter of short-term vs. long-term energy policy; we either pay a little bit more now to encourage efficiency and the implementation of alternatives, or we go on burning the devil’s commodity uninhibited. That’s the choice: either we attend to the long-run interests of the US, or we play directly into the hands of our enemies.

And no, we can’t possibly drill our way out of our energy troubles. We use 25% of the world’s oil, but possess only 3% of the world’s reserves, even including the reserves currently off-limits to drilling. No amount of drilling can possibly make a substantial dent in imports; indeed, it will merely worsen our addiction and make the inevitable withdrawal that much more painful.
Pragmatist,

The Europeans are kicking our ***** in the uber-profitable clean energy industry. I don’t think you have any idea of what you’re talking about.

But, see, they don’t CARE, it’s all about the Instant Gratification and satisfying their needs NOW…gotta have that new iPhone, Notebook, sports car, portfolio, box seat at the game, points at the casino, sex, sex and more sex…and if it has to do with raping the earth of her natural resources, then so be it.
