Why do people complain about gas prices when “They,We & I” buy/sell & push up the price based on speculation?

It just seems ridiculous that gas prices are up so much form over a year ago, for that matter since 9/11. Our oil reserves are well above what they were then & production has increased significantly. With the options traders on wall street, and the average investor looking to invest in their future, they are buying and selling gas futures and pushing up the price per gallon to near all time highs and taking their profits with them. Yes, some economical and political factors are at fault just as are natural weather related concerns. (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, etc.) I would just like to know what some of you think we could do as a whole to bring down prices without resorting to carpooling, using mass transit, or going green.
