Why are other countries so much more technologically advanced than the United States?

For example; bullet high-speed trains, phenomenally fast 3G cell phone service (like in Japan), cooler looking subways (I live in New York and our subways are crap compared to Toyko’s, or London’s), hydrogen/electric public transportation buses, alternative powers such as solar energy or windmill (like germany), cleaner-streets, less car usage, more socially accepting to minorities

Why do Americans say this is the greatest country, yet it’s behind the rest of the world in everything?
Stop talking about freedom. There are hundreds of countries, mostly in Europe, that are as free as the United States.

Being more free would make me think that the country would have more advanced technologies, not less.
That doesn’t make sense.

I agree and I believe in Japan and a lot of Europe is smarter than us, has higher test scores and people who say why dont you leave, give me the money and Id leave.
