These days it is very easy to add power to a shed or garage or
infact any remote building without having to worry about
installing lots of electrical cabling which is usually very time
consuming and expensive, the answer is to add a solar power kit
consisting of a solar panel or solar panels,a 12v leisure battery
and an inverter if you want 240v in the unit, you can then run low energy led lighting,12v lighting or even 240v lighting if you prefer and have power for 240v power tools whenever you need it,The panels will help to charge the
battery whilst its in use and then continue to charge it up again
when you arent using it,12v charging solar panels come in sizes from 3 watts upwards and start from around £25, if its for ocassional use a
3watt solar panel would be fine to keep the battery topped up,if
you intend to use the shed or garage daily then a 20 or 30 watt
panel would probably be fine providing your energy needs arent
too great,if you find once you have the system setup and running
that its not quite powerful enough for your needs its very easy
to add more solar panels at a later date, the wiring is very
simple, its simply a matter of connecting the + and – cables from
the solar panel or solar panels to your battery and then your 12v
devices or 240volt inverter connect directly to your battery,if you have a spare car battery lying around this will suffice to get you up and running and save on the expense of buying a new battery,a leisure battery is best though if you intend on running an inverter and power tools often, if you only require to run lighting occasionally and dont have a spare car battery lying around then a smaller mand much cheaper sla battery will run low energy led or 12v lighting just fine,
