convection is my engine means that there is no mechanical pump to do the circulation of the water from and back to the tank. I was wondering whether Ed below knows how far apart vertically the inlet and the outlet should be? Thanks for taking the trouble. Ed K

If you are depending on convection for fluid movement, the supply inlet should be on the opposite side of the outlet, with the supply inlet at a lower elevation than the outlet.
