Twenty eight year old African American author, Nashea Swinson, inspires many people with her thought provoking poems. Her book, “WE Are Church:Poems of Power and Words of Inspiration was published in May of 2008. It is a book of creative and powerful poems, scriptures, and inspirational messages. Swinson is a minister at Spirit of Fire located in Richmond, VA under the ministry of Michael and Raquel Maye. She is a graduate of Oral Roberts University with a degree in psychology and currently working with challenged youth as a crisis counselor.

     In December of 1995, at the age of 14, Swinson knelt down on the floor of her bedroom, and received the gift of salvation after hearing for the first time a powerful spiritual message given at a large youth service. From there, her curiosity about God and having a relationship with Jesus Christ grew more intense. At the age of 15, she made a heartfelt decision to live a life worthy before God at all cost. Swinson became highly involved with the youth at her church as well as other Christian activities. Through those years as a teenager, her desire to preach the gospel, and to serve the Lord with all of her heart grew more extreme.

     In August of 2001, Nashea Swinson attended Oral Roberts University located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There she was challenged to go beyond her herizons in ministry. She became heavily involved in weekly outreaches with the youth and the homeless throughout her entire four years at the University. Swinson also participated in missionary journeys to Bulgaria in the summer of 2003 with a team of ORU students serving in various outreaches in the gypsy communities. In the summer of 2004, she served in Singapore

with a large Asian congregation working with the mentally challenged and youth. After her experience with outreach and missions, Swinson’s compassion for people increased more and more. Swinson plans to “be a blessing” to her church, and get other people involved with outreaches and missions.

Lastly, Swinson would like to share with you a popular poem in her book entitled “The Voice, A Word”

I hear the sound of thunder

There’s a soft whisper in the grass

The trees burst with laughter

It’s the voice.

The leaves play, the wind wails,

One thing I realize, I could tell

It’s the voice.

The voice in the thunder, the voice in the grass

The voice in the trees, the voice in the wind and leaves.

It’s a soft word that can never be spoken by the lips of men;

The kind that men long to here everyday that says,

I love you.

Through the good, the bad

In your strengths and weaknesses,

It’s greater than your biggest dream

Your Deepest Desire, beyond who we are

Body, Soul, and Spirit

The voice of the creator of voices

And the sounds of the thunder, the grass,

the trees the wind, and the leaves.

There’s another sound I hear

A multitude of voices from every nation, tribe, and tongue

Worshipping the creator of the voices;

He inhabits in the sounds of the multitudes.

The creator of voices stands;

The earth trembles,

Every knee is bowed and every voice is silent

Other than the creator of voices.

He is the voice that we should submit to

The only true voice that has authority,

And the power to change life

In a blink of an eye,

With a word

With a voice.
